BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Fire Marshal or designee, the Community Compliance Inspector is responsible for the comprehensive enforcement of the adopted International Fire Code (IFC) and all applicable Eddy County Ordinances. This dual-role position is critical for ensuring public safety, maintaining quality of life, and promoting compliance across the county's commercial and residential properties. This is a field-based position requiring significant independent judgment, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills. The employee will investigate complaints and proactively identify violations of Eddy County Ordinances, including those pertaining to junk, non-operable vehicles, debris, dilapidated structures, rubbish, trash, weeds, liquid waste, manufactured home placement, and RV/workforce camps. The employee will enforce the adopted International Fire Code (IFC) through comprehensive building inspections to verify compliance with fire and life safety regulations. The employee will engage with property owners, businesses, and community members in a professional and constructive manner, both in office settings and in the field, and provide clear and accurate education and information regarding applicable ordinances, regulations, and fire safety best practices. The employee will maintain meticulous records of all inspections, violations, enforcement actions, communications, and other relevant activities. The employee will assist with the planning and setup of fire prevention and public relations activities as assigned by the Fire Marshal or designee.
